Amani Nature Reserve.

situated in northeast Tanzania, 35 km from Muheza and 45 km from Tanga, in the southern section of the East Usambara Mountains, the first nature reserve in Tanzania under the base of Usambara Mountain which has been protected since 1997 with an alternative and diverse side of Africa’s nature to be discovered, there is a lush and mountainous landscapes that offers a chance to immerse and relaxed into unique mountain forest environment and enjoy the beauty of nature, The place was named as Amani Nature Reserve. As the area recognised as highly valuable in terms of biodiversity and the uniqueness of the location attracts high number of endemic species. Amani Nature Reserve is the biggest protected area in the East Usambara Mountains, with approximately 8360 Sq Kms that includes low and highlands. As the biggest forest reserve with multiple factors not only has a variety of endemic flora and fauna species but also different landscapes with waterfalls features. Amani Nature Reserve also has a community-based butterfly project centre, where you can get familiar with butterfly breeding and spot some beautiful butterflies of the area. Along the trails there are also numerous picnic sites, viewpoints, waterfalls and most of all the surrounding forests. It’s also recommended to go for a guided night walk to spot some animals that are invisible during day time. (like chameleons and bats).
